SP.99.12 Proposed Revisions to the Bylaws Part A.2 - Meetings

BACKGROUND

It has been called to the attention of the Senate Committee on University Statutes and Senate Procedures (USSP) that the current Senate calendar is in violation of the Bylaws which call for monthly meetings. Taken literally, the Bylaws call for nine meetings yearly. USSP proposes amending the Bylaws to call for a minimum of six meetings yearly - normally three each semester. (The organizational meeting does not count as a meeting, since it occurs in the previous year.)

RECOMMENDATION

The Committee on University Statutes and Senate Procedures recommends approval of the revisions to the Bylaws, Part A.2. Text to be deleted is indicated in [square brackets] and text to be added is underscored.

PROPOSED REVISIONS TO THE BYLAWS, PART A.2

2. Regular meetings of the Senate shall by held [monthly] at least six times during the academic year. Dates and times of such meetings for the next year shall be proposed by the Senate Council and approved by the Senate at the last regular meeting of the academic year.
